Lyndon Roads — One Year Out

Road work progress

As the Town of Lyndon approaches the one-year anniversary of the two floods from 2024, we felt it was appropriate to include up to date progress on the many roads impacted by these events. As a result of the July 11 flood event, there was damage sustained to thirteen roads including: Brook Road, Caledonia Drive, Center Street, His Hill Road, Hunter Farm Road, Lily Pond Road, Red Village Road, Sheldon Brook Road, Fall Brook Road, Old Coach Road, Simpson Drive, South Wheelock Road, and Little Egypt Road. Thanks to the hard work of the Town of Lyndon Highway Department and many local construction contractors, we have been able to repair of each of these roads to 100% completion with the exception of the guardrail work on Little Egypt Road and stream bank stabilization work on the inlet side of the culvert on Fall Brook Road. The Little Egypt Road guardrail work can be expected to be completed within the month of July.

With regards to the July 30 flood event, there was damage sustained to fourteen roads including: Brook Road, Burrington Bridge Road, Caledonia Drive, His Hill Road, Hunter Farm Road, Jewell Hill Road, Kingdom Road, Orleans Lane, Pierce Drive, Red Village Road, Sheldon Brook Road, Simpson Drive, Sugar Maple Road, and Wild Rose Lane. These roads would not have been restored without the many long hours and weekends sacrificed by the Town of Lyndon Highway crew, local contractors, and material suppliers. These contractors and material suppliers include: Russel Riendeau and Sons Incorporated, Berry Forestry Products, Casella Construction Incorporated, Olcott/Gerard Gingue Gravel Pit, Simpson Dirt Worx, Calkins Rock Products and Quarry, Kingdom Gravel and Aggregate. Currently all impacted roads apart from Brook Road, Hunter Farm Road, and Red Village Road, are 100% complete and fully operational for travel. Brook Road and Hunter Farm Road are set to be completed by the end of June 13 aside from the guardrails which will be installed within the next month.

The remaining work at Red Village Road will begin on Monday, June 16. For the next three weeks, Casella Construction will be providing additional gravel and will finish grating in preparation for paving to begin in mid-July 2025.  During these weeks, sections of Red Village Road will be closed to traffic during the hours from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Starting June 16, Red Village Road from Severance Hill Road to Sheldon Brook Road will be closed to through traffic during the construction hours provided above. Homeowners will still have access to and from their properties during this time. As construction progresses, the mobile signage on Red Village Road will be updated with current information on road closures. In mid-July, once the paving is completed, guardrail installation will begin. Engineering for the two temporary bridges has begun and the construction for the permanent bridges will begin in 2026. We appreciate everyone’s patience over the last year as we have been working to put Lyndon’s roads back together.

Sincerely,
Justin Smith
