In April 2025, the Town of Lyndon was awarded a $200,000 grant through the State of Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development. The\u00a0Downtown Transportation Fund<\/strong>\u00a0is a financing tool which assists municipalities in paying for transportation-related capital improvements within or serving a Designated Downtown and eligible Designated Village Centers.\u00a0 Investment in the infrastructure of public spaces stimulates private investment and creates a sense of identity and pride in Downtowns and Village Centers across Vermont. Since its inception in 1999, the program has invested over $17 million in Vermont’s downtowns and villages. The Town of Lyndon was able to apply for this grant due to having Village Center Designation and completing the \u201cBetter Connections\u201d program in 2021-2023.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The grant, in coordination with a local match, will go towards funding our Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project. It will support the installation of four raised crosswalks with curb extensions (“bump-outs”), complemented by four decorative, pedestrian-scale LED light posts strategically placed at each crosswalk location. The existing 10 light posts on this stretch of Depot Street will be upgraded with new decorative arms and LED light fixtures. The project area connects several essential community destinations, including the Darling Inn senior housing complex, the Town Library, and numerous local businesses.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Two separate Requests for Proposals were posted to solicit bids for each coordinating part of the project\u20141) Final design\/engineering and construction of new highly visible crosswalks with sidewalk extensions (\u201cbump-outs\u201d) and 2) Final design\/engineering and installation of new decorative, efficient LED light posts and decorative LED upgrades to the existing lighting.
